Fisherman’s Smock | Guilvinec (Sea Blue)

Armor-lux Guilvinec smock in sea blue. The smock's colour is like that of the Atlantic, a rich colour that will transport you to the white caps breaking against the sea's edge. In older days the fisherman's smock would have been made from old sail cloth. Now the material is a 100% pure cotton drill, still weighty enough to protect from the wind or a boat's  rough edges. The smock will wash and improve with age, year in, year out. In recognition of the smock's old history Armor-lux have kept the old details: the inside pocket (for dry tobacco) and the inside collar button (to stop it catching on loose ropes). Founded in Quimper, Brittany, in 1938 by Swiss engineer Walter Hubacher, Armor-Lux brings French maritime heritage to everyday clothing. Its name unites Armor, the Breton word for sea, with Lux, meaning light. Originally producing underwear, the company introduced ready-to-wear collections in 1970 and became renowned for its classic Breton striped shirts. Working with natural fibres such as cotton and wool, Armor-Lux maintains knitting workshops in Quimper. Regional craftsmanship remains central to the brand, alongside an emphasis on responsible sourcing, including organic and fair-trade cotton within selected collections.
